Low-Grade Glioma in Children and Adolescents

  • Original language description

Low-grade gliomas are the most common CNS tumours in children and adolescents. Different from their adult counterparts, Paediatric Low-Grade Gliomas (PLGG) have high survival rates with very few patients dying from disease. During the last 15 years, extraordinary biology findings have occurred in these tumours leading to a new WHO 2021 classification based on molecular alterations. A complete pathology-molecular-methylation study is now recommended in these tumours for a precise diagnosis and molecular targets. Surgery is still the main treatment for those resectable tumours. For non-resectable, chemotherapy and radiotherapy (in selected cases) are used. In the last years, targeted therapy is gaining visibility with good results and reasonable toxicity. Long-term quality of life of the patients remains an important aim when choosing the best treatment for these patients.
