Median Cystic and Solid Lesions
Original language description
Median cystic and solid lesions are developmental disorders in a neck midline. Clinically, they are asymptomatic in most cases. Median neck cyst (thyroglossal duct cyst) is the most common, mainly asymptomatic lesion of childhood age. Rarely, bronchogenic/bronchial cyst, dermoid cyst, thymic cyst, and parathyroid cyst appear in a neck midline and should be taken into differential diagnosis. The preoperative diagnosis is done by imaging and fine-needle aspiration cytology. Ultrasonography, computed tomography, or magnetic resonance imaging can be all applied to imagine mid neck lesions. Treatment of choice for symptomatic lesions is surgical. The final diagnosis is histological after surgical complete excision.
