An early Medieval decorated bearded battle axe head from Bašnice
Original language description
This paper presents a unique early medieval bearded battle axe head that was found in the Spring of 2019 near Bašnice (Jičín district), Czech Republic. The artefact is unique because of its miniature size and the use of inlay as a decorative technique. Consequently, the battle axe should be perceived as an artefact that expresses high social status. Based on analogies of similar artifacts, decorative motifs and techniques, the battle axe can be dated to the first decades of the 10th century.
