Children Burials at Moravian Settlements in the Czech Republic

Studying the phenomenon of childhood brings on also issues relating to children burial rites in all types of communities. Children burials and children graves are inherent parts of archaeological discoveries made at Moravian settlement agglomerations. Inthe recent years (1999?2006), extensive archaeological rescue research ? especially in Central Moravia ? has considerably extended the amount of knowledge on the Neolithic burial rite. This contribution brings a summary of hitherto discoveries of 20 archaeological sites from Moravia with finds of skeletal remains of 51 buried children. Analyses of burial customs at Neolithic settlements in Moravia show the approach of the community to children and childhood from the point of view of the burial rite andpotential social differentiation.

Fenomén dětství souvisí i otázkami způsobu pohřbívání dětí v každé společnosti. Dětské pohřby a hroby dětí jsou nedílnou součástí archeologických objevů nalezených v moravských sídelních aglomerací. Rozsáhlé záchranné archeologické výzkumy z posledních let (1999-2006) zvláště na střední Moravě velmi výrazně rozšiřují naše znalosti o neolitickém pohřbívání. V příspěvku uvádíme souhrn dosavadních objevů 20 archeologických lokalit z Moravy s nálezy kosterních pozůstatků 51 pohřbených dětí. Z archeologického hlediska pohřby dětí na sídlištích řadíme do čtyř skupin: samostatné pohřby dětí v sídlištním objektu, hromadné pohřby dospělých a dětí, vícečetné pohřby dětí v objektu a samostatné hroby. Analýza pohřebních zvyklostí na neolitických sídlištích v moravském prostředí je ukázkou přístupu společnosti k fenoménu dětství z hlediska pohřebního ritu a možné společenské diferenciace.
