In the time, arround the year 800, western influences along with Christian ideas began to penetrate into Moravia where by then existed the social elites, the future princes of Great Moravia. Their bearers were initially priests and perhabs monks of the Bavarian church province, and missionaries from the region of north-Italian Aquileia and from the originally Byzantinbe (Greek) cities at the Adriatic coast of Croatia.
