Reconstruction of the evolution of Palaeolithic settlements within urban agglomeration
Original language description
The main focus of this study was the reconstruction of the density and types of Palaeolithic settlementsof the chosen urban agglomeration. Considering the character of this study and the availability of archivaldocuments, the city of Brno, presently the second biggest city in the Czech Republic in terms ofdensity of population, was selected. The author, using numerous archival materials, analyses the urbanenvironment of the city of Brno, with the objective of finding and, if possible, post facto locating Palaeolithicand palaeontological sites, and possibly even Pleistocene profiles, as precisely as possible. Theabove-mentioned sites were located using absolute coordinates and visualised using the ArcGIS software. The research showed that even the present urban agglomeration holds relevant information on the originalsettlements and that it is possible to predict other potential locations with Palaeolithic finds.
