Original language description
The essay explores the use of AI in the visual arts, focusing on generative visual tools from the past 6–7 years, with references to the broader history of various societies. It examines the evolving concept of creativity, originally attributed to humans and deities, and its extension in the 20th and 21st centuries to animals, other human species and to machines and technological systems. It focuses upon the intersection of AI with artistic production, the autonomy of AI-generated works and their impact on human creators. Through focusing on works by artists, collectives and activists, the text highlights AI’s role in artistic processes, touching on themes of originality, authenticity, and the human-AI collaborative experience. The document also addresses the broader framework of AI integration into general life and ponders future possibilities.
