THE GRAPHIC COLLECTION OF THE RAJHRAD MONASTERY AS THE IMAGE OF THE REPRESENTATION AND ARTISTIC ACTIVITIES OF THE RAJHRAD MONASTERY
Original language description
From Baroque times the prelates of Rajhrad surrounded themselves with pieces of art. The graphical collection included mostly copperplates, then etchings and lithographies. By the end of 18th century there were 146 engravings and the number of prints continued to grow and the graphical collection was expanded not only through donation, but also purchases made by the monastery. There you could find for example views, genre pictures, religious pictures, portraits of saints, abbots or clerics from 18th–19th century etc. Interest of art sis also documented by publications found in the library. In addition to theoretical books, these include catalogues of major Austrian and German art collections and guides to museum expositions
