Digital Literacy Competencies and Interests of Elderly People

  • Original language description

The research aimed to collect information on the elderly’s level of information literacy and their interest in further education in areas regarding the Internet and other ICT. We identified the interests of the elderly (65 years of age and older) in particular topics in which they would be most motivated to study. However, these areas should reflect their entry level of digital competence, evaluated through a self-evaluation scale. The results reveal that the younger among the elderly reach a higher level of digital literacy than the older. The elderly who learned to use ICT and the Internet independently assessed their skills better than those who were helped or trained. Regardless of their self-evaluation, most of the elderly showed interest in further education in other areas of ICT.
