The Morais Dictionary: Following Best Practices in a Retro-digitized Dictionary Project
Original language description
This article highlights best practices for retro-digitized dictionary projects, using the MORDigital project (DOI 10.54499/PTDC/LLT-LIN/6841/2020) as a case study. MORDigital focuses on digitally transforming the first three editions (1789, 1813, 1823) of the historic Portuguese Morais dictionary. Beyond creating faithful digital versions, the project reflects on key decisions, offering insights into the process. Topics include establishing a robust data model, refining metadata, implementing consistent identifiers, enhancing encoding techniques, and structuring domain labeling. The article contributes to the discourse on retro-digitization, data preservation, and knowledge organization.
