Historical Anoikonyms and Oikonyms in Relation to Wallachian Colonization of Halenkov from 17th to 19th centuries (Moravian Wallachia)

  • Original language description

Anotace (anglicky) Toponyms have served humanity for centuries as a means of orientation within the inhabited landscape. With changes in farming practices and the decline of small-scale agriculture, these names are fading from peoples’ memory, much like the disappearance of individuals who farmed these lands for centuries. The majority of place names have been preserved in areas with long-standing settlement continuity. This contribution presents toponyms and anoikonyms in the village of Halenkov (central Moravian Wallachia, Outer Western Carpathians, Czech Republic), and thereby shows remnants of a Wallachian pastoral colonization, which is connected to the pre-industrial use of this area. The preservation and contemporary use of these original toponyms and anoikonyms not only reference the settlement developed in the area, but also demonstrate the uninterrupted continuity of its economic utilization.
