Tofacitinib in Pregnancy: Assessing Pregnancy and Infant Outcomes, Cord Blood, and Breast Milk Concentrations
Original language description
Janus kinase (JAK) inhibitors are effective anti-inflammatory agents for treatment of ulcerative colitis (UC). According to drug regulatory agencies and international guidelines, JAK inhibitors should be avoided during pregnancy and lactation. The existing evidence on safety of JAK inhibitors during pregnancy is scarce and almost exclusively limited to tofacitinib. We present (1) pregnancy outcomes in a case series of women with UC exposed to tofacitinib during conception and pregnancy, (2) data on placental drug transfer, and (3) results on excretion of tofacitinib into breast milk of a lactating woman on maintenance treatment 5 mg twice daily (BID).
