Letter by Zagatina et al. regarding the article, "Three-dimensional speckle strain echocardiography is more accurate and efficient than 2D strain in the evaluation of left ventricular function"
Original language description
We read the recently published paper by Xu et al. [1] regarding new and very interesting data of the 3D speckle tracking analysis. The authors have shown the better correlation between3Dspeckletracking and ejection fraction in comparison with the correlation between 2D speckle tracking and ejection fraction measuring by 3D method. After that, they concluded that 3D speckle tracking echocardiography " is more accurate than2D speckle trackingin theevaluation of leftventric- ular function. " We think thisconclusion is not valid; " ejection fraction " and " left ventricular function " are not synonymous. Ejection fraction is one of the parameters that can describe one of the components of left ventricular function - global systolic contraction - this parameter is not exhaustive for the whole ventricular or even systolic function. If theejection fractionwould be theequivalentof the whole left ventricu- lar function, why do we use other parameters, for example, the speckle tracking analysis
