    Demagnetization of Current Transformers

  • Original language description

Current transformers (CTs) are susceptible to remanence caused by DC magnetization. In such case the precision of the CT can be degraded especially for low measured currents. Magnetization can be caused by transients from lightning or switching in the net. Earlier we developed method to measure DC current component by using fluxgate effect in the CT. This can also be used to demagnetize the CT and keep it without remanence; however, the instrumentation is complicated and requires energy. The aim of thisstudy was to develop simple device for demagnetization of the CTs in the field.
