Temperature Sensors for Use in High-Temperature Guarded Hot Plate
Original language description
Guarded Hot Plate (GHP) method is recognized as an accurate for measuring thermal conductivity of thermal insulation materials. Within the scope of European Metrology Research Programme (EMRP) Project SIB52 Thermo, High Temperature Guarded Hot Plate (HTGHP) instrumentation is being developed to enable thermal conductivity measurements at temperatures up to 800 °C with an uncertainty better than 5 %. One of the key parameters influencing the overall uncertainty is the uncertainty of temperature measurement. Therefore, a great attention is paid to selection of proper temperature sensors to be used in HTGHP. Considering the suitable sensor, except for high temperature resistance, many other criteria has to be fulfilled, e.g. temperature sensor needs to beas thin as possible to minimize disruption of desired temperature profile inside a specimen and avoid undesirable heat losses. It has been shown that temperature sensors currently used in HTGHP tend to de-calibrate after an exposure to 7
