An insulation materials of thermocouple at high temperatures
Original language description
Insulating material is an important part of thermocouples because it insulates wires from each other. Recently, ceramics Al2O3 (purity 99.7 %) has been the most used materials in temperature calibration laboratories. The temperature maximum of standard materials is usually around 1800 °C and their properties are not suitable at measurement in horizontal position. This material starts to deform above temperature 1400 °C plastically and deformation has a negative influence for the measurement. Scale of the deformation depends on both temperature gradient along the material including its immersion and time of exposure on the high temperatures. The aim of this work was to make an overview and testing of other materials in the temperature range (1400 – 1800) °C which might replace Al2O3. Selected materials were tested at horizontal furnace Clasic. Tested materials are used for both insulation powder and capillary. The suitability of insulating materials for thermocouple preparation will be presented. This work is supported by internal project No. 16101202.
