QuAHMET: Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect Materials and Devices for Metrology

  • Original language description

The primary resistance standard (PRS) represents the “gold standard” in electrical metrology, whose realization is based on the quantum Hall effect (QHE). The QHE devices currently employed in metrology require extreme experimental conditions to operate, such as low temperatures and high magnetic fields, which restrict their adoption to only National Metrology Institutes (NMIs). The Quantum anomalous Hall effect (QAHE) offers the possibility to overcome these limitations maintaining the ultimate accuracy required to a PRS. QuAHMET: Quantum Anomalous Hall Effect Materials and Devices for Metrology is a Joint Research Project, Fundamental call, of the European Partnership on Metrology (EPM) research funding programme. In this project, we will investigate and implement technologies for developing QAHE devices and measurement infrastructures optimized for metrological applications, towards the development of a ‘quantum electrical metrology toolbox’ for universal adoption of quantum electrical SI standards. The project consortium involves NMIs and academic institutions from Europe and Asia, counting fourteen partners from nine different countries. It is funded with an EU contribution of about 1.3 M€ and will run from 2024 to 2027.
