In some patients with severe familial hypercholesterolemia, aggressive lipid lowering with LDL apheresis may significantly improve development of atherosclerosis as reflected to the concentration of soluble adhesion molecules namely P-selectin and MCP-1.

U některých pacientů s těžkou familiální hypercholesterolaemií může agresivní LDL-aferézou signifikantně zlepšit průběh aterosklerózy, což je ve vztahu ke koncentraci solubilních adhesních molekul zejména P-selectinu a MCP-1.
