Prehospital therapeutic hypothermia after cardiac arrest: Is it really cool to stop?
Original language description
The high mortality rate of survivors of out-of-hospital cardiac arrest is attributable to post-cardiac arrest neurological injury, for which prehospital therapeutic hypothermia (PTH) has become standard treatment in many Emergency Medical Services (EMSs).1-4 From our experience, implementation of any new method involves a lot of human and financial resources, including time spent on education of personnel.1 Although the level of evidence for the routine use of PTH is low1-3, it has enabled EMS personnelto understand that post-resuscitation care begins with them.
