Original language description
Reply to Irimie et al. is a short response to a Letter to Editor written by Imirie et al. which discussed possible alternatives to the surgical techniques presented in our original article ("Aortic valve performance after remodelling versus reimplantation in a propensity-matched comparison"). Although the techniques presented by our group are generally accepted and well established, Imirie et al. proposed a controversial alternative, i.e. cusp augmentation and omitting the annuloplasty. Long-term outcomes of this technique are limited to single-centre experience. In Reply to Irimie we discuss the evidence and controversies associated with this technique, while documenting our own outcomes, etiology and treatment of complications met during aortic valve repair.
