Author's Reply to the Letter to the Editor regarding: "Severity of elbow mobility limitation in pediatric patients with a displaced supracondylar humerus fracture"
Original language description
This article serves as an author's reply to clarify the methodological procedures used in a previous study on elbow mobility limitation following displaced supracondylar humerus fractures in pediatric patients. The authors detail the intraoperative criteria for anatomical reduction, which includes correcting Baumann's angle and addressing any malrotation. Furthermore, the text confirms that elbow range of motion was assessed using a standard goniometer and compared to the healthy contralateral limb to account for highly individual physiological variations. The authors also explain that the retrospective nature of the study prevented the inclusion of raw angle measurement data. Finally, the response justifies the use of the modified Gartland classification, noting its global recognition and suitability for evaluating final functional outcomes.
