Orthotopic heart transplantation in patient with cardiac malignant fibrous histiocytoma: a case report and literature review
Original language description
Primary cardiac sarcomas are uncommon and rare tumors, with poor prognosis and median survival less than 10 months. Tumor resection with adjuvant chemotherapy only partially alleviates the disease, and patients die of local recurrence of the tumor or ofdistant metastases. Role of orthotopic heart transplantation in controversial. Heart transplantation may be indicated in young patients without metastases. We present a case report of young patient with a recurrence of malignant fibrous histiocytoma following heart transplantation. This is the fourth case of heart transplantaion in this type of cardiac sarcoma. Based on our clinical experience and literature review we formulate a hypothesis dealing with indication and efficiency of this treatment methodin cardiac malignant fibrous histiocytoma.
