Left atrial flow propagation velocity: a new approach for assessment of left atrial reservoir function

  • Original language description

Abnormalities of left atrial performance are clinically important. The assessement of left atrial reservoir function is currently very difficult. In our study with 30 healthy volunteers, we have tested the feasibility of left atrial flow propagation velocity measurement and its prealod dependence. Left atrial flow propagation velocity was measurable in a majority of subjects and represents new index of atrial reservoir function which is less dependent on loading conditions.
