The Role of a Smartwatch in Mobile Chronic Disease Self-Management
Original language description
Smartwatch represents a new, dynamically evolving development platform within personal health support. It is a consequence of continuous efforts of moving technology closer to the user, into the wearable technology area. The progress of user adoption ofthis technology is promising for the future, and especially for users having a chronic disease that can be managed more easily with the wearable technologies. In a case of diabetes its proper use would improve a long-term compensation and anticipate acute, life threatening complications. Not only the placement of the device on a wrist allows a user to feel a unique pervasive experience. Even though several research projects were aimed to evaluate the usability of a wrist-worn computing environment in astage of prototype in the past, still there is a way to go, since the real user-adoption of fully functional devices has started recently and is still in a progress.
