The chapter deals with a historical contribution of the Czech authors to clinical and polysomnographic features of Idiopathic hypersomnia. Prof. Roth was the first author who described the disease as an independent nosological entity as early as the 1960s. Polysomnographic recordings illustrated the character of the diasease in the 1970s, and neurological and psychological symptoms completed its clinical picture in the 1980s. A prolonged nocturnal sleep together with dificulties during awakening (sleepdrunkeness) are still the main clinical feature of this disease in the international classification of sleep disorders
