Original language description
Carotid endarterectomy (CEA) is one of the most common surgeries performed to remove atherosclerotical plaque build-up aiming to reduce the risk of stroke. An alternative to CEA is carotid stenting which yields similar results. The role of the vascular team in the pre-operative and post-operative care of patients undergoing this CEA or CAS is mandatory as well as high volume of cases. In the following chapter, the technique of CEA is described in detail as well as other surgical and endovascular possibilities in the carotid bifurcation region.
