The study draws on Czechia as a case example, where precursor regulation altered the drug market structure but did not impact public health indicators. While previous studies acknowledge variations in effectiveness, they lack explanations for these differences. The author argues that an international perspective is crucial, considering factors such as migration, trade, and geographical position in shaping precursor markets. Commentary emphasizes the need for international comparisons to understand causal mechanisms behind regulatory outcomes. Furthermore, it advocates for transparency in research practices to improve reproducibility, aligning with broader open science initiatives.
