In einer kontrollierten, doppelblinden, randomisierten Multicenter-Studie wurden Wirksamkeit und Verträglichkeit von Acemetacin im Vergleich zu Celecoxib bei der Behandlung von Patienten mit Gonarthrose (mindestens Kellgren 2) untersucht. 105 Patienten im Alter zwischen 26 und 64 Jahren wurden in die Studie eingeschlossen und randomisiert. 53 Partienten erhielten 2x90 mg/d retardiertes Acemetacin (ACE) und 52 Patienten 2x200 mg/d Celecoxib (CEL), Therapiedauer war sechs Wochen. Eine gastroprotektive Zusatzmedikation während der Studie war nicht erlaubt
