Large medulloblastoma with brain-stem invasion in an adult: case report and review of the literature

  • Original language description

We report the case of 43-year-old woman with a large midline medulloblastoma which was invading the brain-stem. She underwent a radical resection followed by radio- and chemotherapy. The follow-up period was 2.5 years; she is now without recurrence of the tumor, but neurological deficits, mostly in the form of cerebellar dysfunction, persists. The aim of the report is to increase awareness of the incidence, treatment and prognosis of primitive neuroectodermal tumors in adults. Medulloblastomas are rareand compared to the pediatric population, have a relatively good prognosis. The most important prognostic factors are completeness of the resection and presence of metastases.
