In this article we discuss what we can discover about Bedrich Smetana's illness and its effect on his art. This proceeding of a lecture brings medical findings and proofs supporting the hypothesis that syphilis manifested by deafness and progressive paralysis was the main source of ill-health symptoms of the Czech composer Bedrich Smetana. The key arguments are both autopsy protocol and positive serology upon exhumation of his body in 1987.
