PNEI: life and death of skin cells. A new paradigm in the treatment of vitiligo: the low dose cytokines therapy

  • Original language description

Barygina and coworkers evaluated the effects of low dose SKA IL-4, IL-10, b-fibroblast growth factor (b-FGF), and β-endorphin in the modulation of intracellular and extracellular oxidative stress and on the viability of human perilesional keratinocytes obtained from skin biopsies of vitiligo patients. Obtained results showed a significant reduction of intracellular oxidative stress with IL-4, IL-10, and b-FGF and the extracellular oxidative stress with IL-4 and b-FGF; increased cell viability with IL-10, b-FGF, and β-endorphin was also observed. In a retrospective spontaneous clinical study, Lotti and coworkers described the positive results in vitiligo treatment with low dose SKA cytokines alone or in association with microphototherapy with positive percentage of skin repigmentation in a number of patients varying between 74 and 90%.
