The Konstanz Method of Dilemma Discussion
Original language description
The planned international workshop was previously associated with a certain uncertainty of the date, depending on the time possibilities of Prof. George Linda, the creator of the KMDD method and the MCT moral competence test. Both methods are also subject to intellectual property rights. Therefore, the workshop was planned in the schedule (in the project milestones) between September 2021 and March 2022. The postponement of the international workshop in Prague was postponed due to the death of Prof. Linda.Subsequently, communication took place with the successors of this method, in particular with Prof. Dr. Ewa Nowak (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań), as well as Dr. Kay Hemmerling and Dr. Daniel Tello (both from the Institute for Moral-Democratic Competence). Based on this long-term communication, it was finally possible to agree on the date of the international workshop in Prague for 1 to 3 October 2022 with the participation of certified lecturers of this method Dr. Kay Hemmerling and Dr. Daniel Tell and further with follow-up online workshops on 22.10., 29.10., 4.11. and 11.11. 2022, where other foreign experts, Prof. Ewa Nowak and Dr. Małgorzata Steć (Institute of Psychology at the Jagiellonian University Cracow) also spoke.Part of the international workshop was the introduction of the principles of KMDD and the theory of moral competence as a theory of two aspects. Furthermore, invited participants and team members were introduced to the structure of the KMDD training and its practical course. The presentation of the KMDD teaching method in practice mainly included a methodological approach to writing and presenting moral dilemmas, their selection for teaching and the possible use of creating moral dilemmas in medical practice, taking into account the purpose of the grant project. The aforementioned lecturers also presented the theoretical background of the Moral Competence Test (MCT) and its use in medical practice, including references to previous professional studies in this area. In the ongoing online courses, the validation criteria for the MCT, studies on increasing moral competence through the KMDD, the importance of moral competence for improving the quality of democracy, and finally the use of the KMDD as a tool for inclusion (Małgorzata Steć) and the philosophical background of the MCT method (Ewa Nowak) were presented. This result was essential for gaining expertise in the use of the KMDD method and also for explaining the application of the Moral Competence Test (MCT).
