Introduction to the special issue of Cor et Vasa (The Journal of the Czech Society of Cardiology and the Czech Society of Cardiovascular Surgery): Cardiovascular prevention. The world history of Preventive Cadiology is mentioned and focused also on the Czech Preventive Cardiology as an important part of Czech Cardiology. The mani epidemiological studies, in which also Czech preventive cardiologists have participated, are described: MONICA (Multinational MONItoring of trends and determinants in CArdiovascular disease) - the international project of primary cardiovascular prevention , and EUROASPIRE (European Action on Secondary and Primary Prevention by Intervention to Reduce Events) I-IV focused on the patients with stable coronary heart disease. New hot topics of preventive cardiology are mentioned: residual cardiovascular risk persisted in standardly treated patients with atherosclerotic vascular disease, which is done e.g. by atherogenic dyslipidemia, obstructive apnea syndrom assoc
