Carcinoma of the appendix vermiformis is a very rare entity. In this paper the case of an appendiceal cancer in a 67-year-old woman is described. The patient showed a polyp in the caecum and underwent appendectomy and caecum excision. Histological examination revealed villous adenoma of the caecum as well as adenocarcinoma of the appendix. 14 days later right hemicolectomy was performed. The patient underwent adjuvant chemotherapy. In the discussion the frequency and prevalence of appendiceal carcinomaas well as its clinical manifestation, prognosis, diagnostic and treatment possibilities are reviewed.

Czech description
Karcinom apendixu vermiformis je velmi vzácný úkaz. V této zprávě je popsán karcinom apendixu u 67leté ženy. Pacientka vykazovala polyp ve slepém střevu a podstoupila chirurgický zákrok, při kterém ji byl vyjmut apendix a caecum bylo zkráceno. Histologické vyšetření odhalilo vilózní adenom slepého střeva a adenokarcinom apendixu. Po 14 dnech byla provedena pravá hemikolektomie. Pacientka dostala adjuvantní chemoterapii. V závěrečné diskuzi této práce je posuzována frekvence a prevalence tohoto typu nádoru spolu s klinickou manifestací, prognózou, diagnostikou a možnostmi léčby.
