Metabolic abnormalities and weight gain are an important problem in patients with schizophrenia. An instrument to evaluate body image and self-esteem related to weight has recently been developed (B-WISE). The first objective was to evaluate whether thefindings of the original validation study could be confirmed in a European sample. The second objective was to explore the association of B-WISE scores with the metabolic syndrome and glucose abnormalities. A Dutch translation of B-WISE was tested in a large sample of patients with schizophrenia (n=300) who underwent an extensive metabolic screening. The original findings with B-WISE were confirmed in an independent sample. Scores on B-WISE differed significantly as a function of BMI. Scores on B-WISE also differentiated patients with and without the metabolic syndrome and glucose abnormalities. Metabolické abnormality a hmotnostní přírůstek jsou významné u pacientů se schizofrenií. Nyní byl vytvořen nástroj k posouzení sebehodnocení tělesného stavu ve vztahu ke hmotnosti B-WISE. Prvním cílem bylo zjistit, zda nálezy původní validizační studie je možno potvrdit také v Evropě. Dalším cílem bylo zjistit vztah skórů B-WISE k metabolickému syndromu a glukózovým abnormalitám. Byl testován holandský překlad B-WISE na velkém souboru pacientů se schizofrenií (N = 300) kteří rovněž podstoupili rozsáhlýmetabolický screening. V této nezávislé práci byly potvrzeny původní nálezy, týkající se B-WISE. Skóry B-WISE se významně měnily v závislosti na body mass indexu. Tyto skóry také záležely na metabolickém syndromu a glukózových abnormalitách. Pacienti s výrazným přírůstkem hmotnosti měli nízké sebehodnocení a špatnou psychosociální adaptaci. B-WISE je užitečný nástroj k hodnocení subjektivních psychosociálních důsledků spojených s přírůstkem hmotnosti u pacientů se schizofrenií.
