The Viability of Academic Language
Original language description
When studying medical English students acquire varied professional vocabulary . The textbook (Professional English in Use Medicine) provides well-organized medical topics that help students to acquire the necessary vocabulary. However, a large proportionof the communication, which students will eventually carry out is doctor - patient communication. Therefore this article will focus primarily on speaking. Furthermore, the very nature of doctor - patient communication requires the use of lay terms instead of medical terms to enhance patient understanding. In this sense, academic and professional language for many can be seen as incomprehensible and isolated, and must therefore be put in more practical terms. The author focuses on the possibility of expanding the proportion of communication and its practice. In conclusion, samples of interactive activities that promote language communication skills will be provided.
