Der plötzliche Herzstillstand (OHCA) mit erfolgloser kardiopulmonaler Reanimation (CPR) ist die dritthäufigste Todesursache in den Industriestaaten. Nach OHCA liegen die Gesamtüberlebensraten bei 2-10%. In Europa und Die USA zusammen, 700.000 Menschen sterben an OHCA jedes Jahr. Das gleiche gilt für andere Industrieländer der Welt. Viele dieser Leben könnten gerettet werden, wenn mehr Laien sofortige CPR. Notfall-medizinische Dienstleistungen (EMS) Antwortzeiten können mehrere (6-12) Minuten oder sogar länger.
