The workshop marked the conclusion of the second phase of the research project pursued by the Czech team in the El Hayez Oasis since 2003. The workshop brought together experts from different fields of science engaged in the exploration of the Bahariya Oasis and the northern part of the Western Desert of Egypt, to share and discuss the theoretical and methodological challenges of archaeological research and survey of the oases and adjacent desert areas, the results achieved so far, and the possibilitiesof reconstruction of the local environment and the cultural and social development in the area in prehistory as well as in historic periods. The proceedings of the workshop shall appear in 2009.

Toto pracovní setkání odborníků se konalo na závěr druhé etapy českých výzkumů egyptské Západní pouště. Vedle členů českého badatelského týmu, kteří prezentovali dosavadní výsledky vlastního bádání v odlehlé oáze el-Hajez v jižní části oázy Baharíja, byli přizváni i zahraniční egyptologové, archeologové a odborníci z dalších oborů, kteří se zabývají výzkumem oázy Baharíja a přilehlých pouštních oblastí. Příspěvky přednesené během tohoto workshopu vyjdou následující rok formou sborníku.
