Clitic se - Benefit of Being Late
Original language description
The paper puts forth a generative analysis of the reflexive verbal form (henceforth RVF) based on the assumption that the reflexive clitic "se" is a syntactically deficient element late-inserted into the derivation. The deficiency of "se" consists in that it has an incomplete set of Phi-features, thus falling into the closed class of reflexive pronouns. The suggested analysis accounts for the cluster of constraints on the RVF, namely the impossibility of expressing the Agent Theta-role and the unavailability of the RVF in control infinitives.
