Sarah Kane, Experiential Theatre and the Revenant Avant-Garde
Original language description
A critical essay on British playwright Sarah Kane's drama and its avant-garde roots. Kane's early work has been described as experiential; this paper explores the history of experiential theatre tracing its origins to the historical avant-garde and the work of Antonin Artaud. The essay argues that it is this heritage rather than that of the British social problem play that best facilitates an understanding of Kane's work.
