Der Beitrag polemisiert mit der "neugriechischen" Interpretation der Phonetik der altgriechischen Dialekte im 6.-4. Jahrhundert v. Chr., die neuerdings Ch. Karvounis vorgelegt hat. Konsequente Berücksichtigung der Variationslinguistik und der Quellen führt zum Schluss, dass die Entwicklung von den altgriechischen zu den neugriechischen Lauten war damals eher am Anfang.
