The "Venus" of Jebel Uweinat (SE Libya)
Original language description
The article presents the recent discovery of a sandstone anthropomorphic figurine in Jebel Uweinat in Libya and discusses the implications the discovery of a figurine of a specific geometric style known so far only from the Neolithic cemeteries at Kadruka in Sudan has for our understanding of the character of societies that had occupied Jebel Uweinat in the particular period and that are known mostly from their rock art, as well as the implications it has about the long-distance contacts between the Nile Valley in the Sudan with the areas (now deserts) to the west of the Nile.
