RUSSELL M. HILLIER, Milton's Messiah: The Son of God in the Works of John Milton

  • Original language description

A review of Russell Hillier's monograph on the representation of the Son of God in Milton's Paradise Lost, Paradise Regained, and De Doctrina Christiana. Most of it is prolix, amounting to descriptions of the grand poem's Christology, fleshed out by citations from Milton's treatise, and by biblical references and theological contexts. It offers an orthodox reading of Milton despite Milton's clear heterodox treatment of the Son in his Christian Doctrine.
