Regaining the Context for Suárez. An Introduction to the Volume

  • Original language description

The text serves as an introduction to the book. It deals with the question why Suárez's stands out as odd and puzzling in the history of philosophy and defends the thesis that the chief reason is our ignorance of the broader context of his thought - namely the so-called second scholasticism. The author explains what he takes to be the causes of this ignorance, which he sees primarily in the revolutionary ethos of modern philosophy, very different from the tradition-driven pre-modern thought.
