    The paper considers recent knowledge of the presence of the Greek pottery excavated in the Black Sea region. These finds pre-date first colonial activities of the Greek cities at the BLack Sea and thus allow us to think about the role of commerce in thelater colonial exploitation of the distant parts of the world.
