The paper shows how the linguistic theory contributes to the theory of knowledge acquisition. Two controversial approaches are analyzed. The first one is the conception of how language (either through its semantics or syntax) can lead to the acquisitionof some non-linguistic concepts (color, number, time etc.) by effecting the cognition.
