The article deals with the Old Kingdom canopic jars from the perspective of their preburial usage. No researcher dealing with their publication has noticed that many of them have holes or other kinds od damage on their surface, or they bear various patches after restoration. The author tries to present an interpretation of the damage and repair of the jars in correspondence with the available archeological and iconographical evidence.
