The study critically interprets origins, history, present and possible future of ethnological and ethnographical museums in the Czech lands which document tangible artifacts of traditional folk culture. Special emphasis is put on connection of ethnological and ethnographical museology with general theoretical and methodological tendencies of ethnological sciences and changes in thematical focus of their study, with specific emphasis on key national institutions of this type in Prague and Brno.
