Eighteen extant portrait medals of Griespek show the nobleman over the entire course of his adult life, the earliest dating to 1536, the last to 1596. They can be considered in the first instance as a visualization of a successful nobleman&apos;s need to display his wealth and standing, and yet they also serve as an illuminating source for the portrait iconography of Florian Griespek and for the study of the changing technique of the portrait in the medal art of the sixteenth century in Central Europe.
