The paper describes Dr. Emil Holub&apos;s notebooks and diaries from Africa and the first notebook from his student years which served as a model for the others. The paper consists of four sections, where the first describes diaries from Holub&apos;s first journey to Africa and one retrospective diary from his second journey to Africa. The second section describes Holub&apos;s notebooks from this journey. The third section looks into other types of notebooks from Holub&apos;s second journey and the last section deals with Holub&apos;s very first notebook with scientific records.
